It comes as no surprise that our current favorite musical is Hamilton by Lin-Manuel Miranda. We’ve found our favorite Hamilton vocal selections book for you. This songbook has been edited to remove any implied explicitness. It has favorites like I’m Not Throwing Away My Shot, Wait for It, You’ll Be Back, On Your Side, and Dear Theodosia. Some songs have a word or two that we will help students change.
Dear Evan Hansen is also a huge favorite of ours. Our teachers love Dear Evan Hansen by Benj Pasek & Justin Paul because the music and lyrics speak to their emotions so deeply. Their favorite book is this Dear Evan Hansen vocal selections book.
Annie is a top choice for our kiddos who love to dance and sing. All of the music from Annie brings a smile to our mini triple threats. Annie is also a huge favorite in our dance classes, so many students of ours sing and dance their favorite songs.
Newsies is also a huge teacher and student favorite. All the music is perfect for energetic, kid-friendly, and momentum packed lessons. Not only is the music for dancing to, it also has great selections for young men to sing. This songbook has all the favorite songs from Newsies and features beautiful onstage photos from the Original Broadway production.

A note about sizing: When looking at leotards, Ms. Jenn recommends treating their sizing like a bathing suit. Ms. Jenn also says to double check ballet slipper shoe charts because they tend to run small.

All of our beginner piano kiddos love playing spooooooooky songs for Halloween. Our beginner players especially love Halloween Favorites in the Big-note Piano Book. This book has beginner favorites like the Jaws theme, Thriller, The Munsters theme song, Monster Mash, and Phantom of the Opera.
Intermediate piano players have so much fun with Halloween Spooktacular with amazing selections from scary movies and shows like This is Halloween, The Mummy, Little Shop of Horrors, Ghostbusters, The Phantom of the Opera, Purple People Eater, and Time Warp.
For all of our beginner players who are doing their first holiday recital, our teachers almost always recommend something from The Giant Book of Christmas Songs. The giant book has giant notes for our little readers, so it makes it super approachable for them to perform for the first time with a piece that they love perfectly made for them.
Carol Matz arranges so many of our amazing books, so it’s no wonder we love her Christmas Songbook so much. It has all the classics including fun kids favorites like You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch, Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and Frosty the Snowman. This book has arrangements for beginner to intermediate players.
Chanukah Piano Books
This beginner book of Chanukah solos is a great first introduction to the well-loved classics of the Chanukah season. Chanukah Piano Solos for Kids features Al Hanism, Baruch Shel Chanukah, Hanerot Halalu, I Have a Little Dreydl, Lichvod Hachanukah, Maoz Tzur (Rock of Ages), My Candles, and more.
Another favorite for Hebrew holiday songs is Chanukah and Other Hebrew Holiday Songs. We like this book because it is a book full of beautiful intermediate arrangements of classic Chanukah favorites.
Many parents ask when their child can start piano lessons. At Atlanta Music Education, we have had students start with us even before they walk in our Pre-K sing alongs. With private lessons, we have had students start as young as 3.
In our early learning lessons, we use a combination of piano time, singing, movement, percussion and sometimes even ukulele to introudce them to all the fun music there is.

One special piano book that helps so many of our families is this My Music Journal. This journal helps plan practice time, has a music dictionary, and has fun musical history facts all while providing a tool to help home practice be as productive as possible.
2. One of our favorite books for recital songs is the Famous & Fun Deluxe Collection, Book 1 by Carol Matz! This book has fun classics in a variety of genres and includes songs like Over the Rainbow, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, and The Lion Sleeps Tonight. This book is in nearly all of our classrooms.
3. For our intermediate piano players, we know they want a fun challenge to make their practice as fun as possible. One book that our intermediate players love is this Piano Literature book. It has intermediate arrangements of classical pieces that we all know and love.
4. We have tons of kids who are pop lovers to the max! This Pop Songs for Kids has tons of age and level appropriate songs the keep kids pumped and working on piano AND voice! It has some favorites like, Brave, Can’t Stop the Feeling, Firework, Home, Let It Go, Shake It Off, and What Makes You Beautiful.
5. Disney lovers, we did not forget you! This collection of easy Disney songs are a great and fun way to keep your child entertained with their music for weeks, even months, at a time! It’s got everything your child will love! Alfred’s Kid Guitar Course is the best beginner guitar book there is. All of our guitar teachers love it and refer back to it at every level because it address multiple area of string technique and makes learning about guitar feel so easy for everyone.
When you Google “kids sized guitar” there are so many options to choose from. We’ve found that one of the most decently priced guitar and appropriately sized is the Yamaha 1/2 sized guitar. It fits kids from 5-13 (we’ve found) and provides a warm consistent sound that makes learning to use a guitar for the first time not seem daunting. Check it out here.

Guitar picks are one thing you will lose, take our word for it. We like the Fender guitar picks because they have different weights of guitar picks, which makes finding a suitable pick much easier for kids! Go ahead and stock up.
Guitar tuners are a necessity, especially for beginners players. Tuners not only help you just tune your guitar, they enable your child to start listening and training their ears to recognize when instruments are in and out of tune as a bonus. Capos are a necessary tool as your child advances through their guitar curriculum. Please discuss with your teacher when your child can add a capo to their materials for their lessons. We love the GUITARX capo but how easy it is to use.
