FAQ

Registration

How do we know what instrument to choose?
There is no limit to what a student can choose to begin with, some of our students take piano, voice and songwriting at the same time and it helps to keep variety in their lesson. Ask your child what interests them, what are their favorite singers and bands and go from there. We will be happy to help you narrow it down if needed and explore what inspires them.

Do you offer trial lessons?
Of course! Contact us and we will set up a thirty minute meet and greet lesson. We call our trial lessons FIT SESSIONS to make sure it feels like a good fit all around. Registration and single lesson tuition fee due.

How much are private lessons?

We offer private lessons in home starting at $130 in equal monthly installments for our Little Lesson program for pre-K aged students and $190 in equal monthly installments for 30 minute lessons. The majority of our families pay by the semester, which is a one time purchase of the five months at once at the start of each semester.

How do your semesters work?

Our Fall Semester is from August-December and our Spring Semester is January-May. Each semester students receive 18 lessons, our seasonal Kids Open Mics, formal recitals and multiple studio classes and outings included in tuition.

Why should we pay by the semester?

We encourage families to sign up by the semester to lock in that day and time in your schedule for a consistent after school activity for your child. Semester paying families receive a waived registration annual fee as a thank you.

How much is the annual registration fee?

Our annual registration fee is $35. The fee will be waived if your family signs up for our semester tuition payment plan instead of our monthly equal installment plan.

How do summer lessons work?

We understand that our students and families love to do camps and travel during the months of June and July. Each of our studio families purchase a 4 pack of lessons to use during June and/or July based on their and their teacher’s availability. 6 and 8 packs are also available for purchase. If no lessons are requested for June and July, the 4 pack purchase will be used as a reservation fee to hold your lesson spot in your teacher’s studio.

Lessons

How often and how long are lessons?

Lessons are weekly based on our annual calendar. Depending on the student’s age and needs are set at 20 minutes for pre-k aged students and then 30 minutes, 45 minutes and 60 minutes for elementary aged students and up. Lesson length will be determined during your consultation call with our director and with your teacher.

Do you teach adults?
Of course! Tuition is the same price and we are skilled at focusing on the wishes of each specific student.

How old should my child be to start private lessons?

We recommend three years old for our Little Lessons to start and we provide group  classes for all ages.

What are Little Lessons?

Little Lessons is our program to help get our youngest of students started in their exploration of music study. They are only 20 minutes long and are perfect for a younger sibling of a full time older student. Teachers will create fun and engaging modules based on the child’s interests and bring in drums, sing along and movement activities, light piano and even ukulele for instruction.

Practicing

How often should my child practice?

Every day musical students should take time with their instrument but we understand the restraints of modern households today. Share with your teacher your expectations and goals for your child’s time with us and your teacher will coordinate a plan that will work best for each individual child.

Just like working out or homework, learning music is a daily practice that builds on your daily work on your art. However, even just once a week is better than no music at all.

How can I keep my child motivated to practice?

We have a great incentive programs in place at the school with long term goals that reward, and we would be happy to develop one for you to use at home too.

At home

Is a keyboard ok for a piano at home?
A keyboard will work fine for practicing and we are happy to help in the purchase of a new or used one.

Do we need a guitar or ukulele at home to start guitar or ukulele lessons?
Yes, and we are happy to help you find the right one for your budget.

What is there a lot of distractions at home during lesson?

We completely understand that households today can have lots of moving parts and noise during a music lesson. We teach students and help them focus just like we would when we perform at the coffee shops and restaurants at our Kids Open Mics.

Your teacher can assist in finding the perfect spot in the house for music lessons during their Fit Session with you. We have seen it all over these ten years to messy playrooms, dogs, cats and little sibling tantrums during a lesson– it’s all good!

Will we need to purchase books?

Your teacher will send you a link with any books they recommend will work best for your child during the Fit Session. Sometimes we use method books, especially with piano, but we also enjoy taking materials off the many educator blogs we subscribe to, printing chord sheets off free website and lyrics pages as well.
